It's a very balanced, natural position that allows your hips to open up easier while still allowing you to stay inside of the ball.

By staying back you also do a couple other important things. For one, physics tells us that if the bulk of our weight is shifted forward, onto our front foot, then that weight isn't behind the ball. IE: you aren't hitting from a position of strength.

Every now and then you'll come across a powerful front foot hitter who throws their weight into their swing, but it's rare and really tough to do. By staying back and keeping our hands tucked in close to our body we increase rotational speed while maximizing our weight shift, and creating a natural lift to our swing.Corey Ettingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04781991198791295874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3527677219703079273.post-44245495804785852932011-03-12T23:40:35.167-06:002011-03-12T23:40:35.167-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Corey Ettingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04781991198791295874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3527677219703079273.post-37771735845255775802011-03-12T19:02:01.552-06:002011-03-12T19:02:01.552-06:00I'm 61 and play in a Roy Hobbs leauge and go t...I'm 61 and play in a Roy Hobbs leauge and go through streaks where everything seems to be on the ground. Thanks for the hint about swinging early .. thought I was waiting but maybe not enough. Both because of the inflated BABIP you mentioned and on a more general note because anything that can fall apart after the break will with these Tigers. I knew it was going to happen but the first half was so magical that I didn't want to believe it. It's like a Chris Shelton situation, hopefully he can be more successful than Chris.

I really enjoyed this article, I love your descriptions of batting mechanics and especially your extensive analysis of LD Rates and BABIP. Way to goAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
